-
What should I wear for my appointment? It will depend on what treatment you are having done, and what area of the body is being treated, but generally you want to wear something that allows access to your treatment area. For example, if you had a shoulder issue, you might wear a tank top, if you had a lower back problem you might wear a loose t-shirt. The clinic does have shorts and gowns for you to change into if needed, but you are welcome to bring a change of clothes for yourself as well. On the inside doorknob you will find a red card that you can hang on the front to indicate that you are changing. If you have longer hair, you might want to wear it up or bring an elastic. We do have hair clips if needed.
-
Can I bring someone in with me? Do I have to come alone? You can bring someone with you! If you need to bring your child or you'd just like someone else to be with you, that is perfectly okay.
-
How old does my child need to be to come alone? There isn't a legal age limit or restriction, but generally, it is recommended that anyone under the age of 16 come in with an adult. Of course anyone over the age of 16, is welcome to bring an adult with them if they so choose.
-
I'm not sure this is right for me. I am afraid/anxious about coming in.That is perfectly okay. By no means are you required to have treatment. You can come in and just discuss everything with your practitioner, and if you decide that you don't want treatment or don't want a specific treatment, we just won't do it. Your treatment is about you, so don't be afraid of saying no. If at any point you no longer wish to have a specific treatment, we can try something else.
-
What ages do you treat? We treat people of all ages. There may be some treatments that are not suitable for children, but can we still treat them in other ways.
-
I'm pregnant, can you still help me?Yes! There will be some treatments that will not be available to you, but we can still treat you. If you have any concerns or questions about a specific treatment, you can discuss them with your provider at any time.
-
Will I be sore after treatment? It will depend on the treatment and your condition, but some soreness can be expected. If you feel like you are having a bad reaction after the treatment or you feel like it's getting worse, give us call. Unfortunately, sometimes it does get worse before it gets better, and that can be really frustrating. If you give us a call, we will do our best to help you through it.

I have had some tests/imaging done and would like my provider to see it. How can I get it to you?We can request your imaging (x-rays, MRI, CT scan, etc.) or any other tests from the clinic/hospital that sent you to have them done. To do this you will need to sign our authorization form and provide some information about the test. We will need to know; what you had done, when it was done, what part of the body was it taken of, and who requested for you to have it done. For example, maybe you had an x-ray of your left knee done on January 31st of this year, and your doctor at the Thompson Clinic sent you to have it done. If you do not have an exact date or are unsure of some information, that is okay. We can still try to get it, but the more specific the better. You can also have information sent to us directly. To do so you can request that the results be sent to us. This can be done by fax or email if necessary. If you were sent for imaging or tests by QDoc, you will have to get the results yourself, as there is no way for us to request it. If you have your own copy of the results, you can bring that in for your appointment and we can take a photocopy for our records.
-
Do you have gift certificates? No we do not. However, if you are already aware that someone is a patient of the clinic, you can put a credit on their file. Please keep in mind that due to patient confidentiality, reception will not be able to tell you anything about their appointment frequency or treatment type. If you do choose to have a credit applied to someone's file, we will be able to provide you with a certificate of credit. Which will have the amount of credit on file, as well as space to write a message if you so choose.

What is the difference between chiropractors, physiotherapists, and athletic therapists? All of these healthcare providers are able to treat musculoskeletal disorders. In many cases the treatment from each of these providers can be the exact same! They have different levels of educational requirements to complete their education, and in certain cases each provider may bring a unique perspective or skillset to help their patient. Ultimately, each of these providers are likely to help refer you to someone who is better suited to help you, if they determine they are not the best provider for you.
-
A medical professional advised me not to see a chiropractor. What should I do?It is likely your MD has identified contraindications to manipulative therapies and that is the reason for their recommendation. As a part of your assessment, the safety of individual treatment strategies will be discussed with you, if it is determined that manipulation is a risk, alternative options will be discussed. In some cases, education on your condition and exercise strategies may be all that is needed! Often your MD may not be knowledgeable that chiropractic care has a lot more to offer than manipulation alone.

Can you direct bill to my insurance? We do not direct bill to any private insurances (Blue Cross, Manulife, Canada Life, etc.). However, we can provide receipts for your insurance, at your convenience. If your insurance requires any further information, we will be happy to supply that as well.
-
Do you bill to Treaty? No. Treaty is considered private insurance, and we do not bill to any private insurances. If you do have Treaty coverage, you would need to submit your receipts to them to be reimbursed.
-
What do I need to get reimbursed? There are all kinds of insurance policies with different requirements. We recommend contacting your insurance provider to find out what you will need. Some insurances may require a prescription for you to be reimbursed, but some do not. We can provide printed or emailed receipts at your convenience, as well as anything else your insurance requires.

I am claiming under Manitoba Public Insurance (MPI) for an injury sustained from motor vehicle accident, how does that work?First things first, you will need to contact MPI. Inform them that you would like to open a personal injury claim and that you'd like to be treated at our clinic. After that, give us a call and we will find an appointment time that works for you. Please inform us upon booking that you are claiming under MPI. If MPI does approve your claim, we will bill them directly for the cost of your visit. Typically. MPI will only allow you to see one provider, if you'd like to switch providers, you will need to contact MPI to inform them of such.

I am claiming under the Worker's Compensation Board (WCB) for injury sustained at work, how does that work?Ideally, you will want to inform your supervisor beforehand that you were injured and plan on pursuing WCB. If you have not, you will need to as soon as possible. You can contact WCB either before or after you book your appointment with us. They will ask you for some information about yourself and the accident that took place. You will want to inform them that you are coming to our clinic for treatment. Upon booking with us, please inform us that you are claiming under WCB. During your visit there will be some paperwork regarding the accident. If at this time, you have a claim number from WCB, we will take that down as well. If WCB approves your claim, we will bill them directly for the cost of your visit. Typically, you are only allowed to see one provider during your claim. If you'd like to switch your provider, you will have to contact WCB to advise them of such.

I am trying to file with my insurance to be reimbursed, but my provider isn't listed. Can you help? The first thing you'll need to do, is make sure you are filing correctly. Some insurances offer coverage for acupuncture. Some of these insurances require that it be performed by an acupuncturist specifically. It is important to understand exactly what you are covered for. Unfortunately, we have no way of knowing what your insurance requires. The best thing to do is to contact your insurance directly. Another example would be physiotherapy, you can do your physiotherapy with a chiropractor, but when you go to claim your visits, it would still be under chiropractic. Often it can be less about what is getting done, and more about who is performing it. If you are filing correctly and the provider still isn't listed, try following the steps your insurance prompts you with. If there are none, or its just not working, give us a call. We'll see what we can do to help.

I need a receipt for my appointment(s). How can I get one?Just give us a call. We can have it emailed to you or printed out. We can give you one after each appointment, after every couple appointments, or all together at the end of the year. We can pretty much get it to you whenever. If there is ever an issue with a receipt or you just need a new one, we can always provide another.
